New Latch Design

for Series 300 Modular Check Valves

For improved automation and assembly, we have recently updated the latching mechanism of our Series 300 Modular Check Valves.  The new design is subtle, yet yields a latch that fastens with greater ease and remains more securely closed versus the previous design.  This new change is especially beneficial for customers with applications that are exposed to torsion forces or other high stress environments.

“We added ramps or lead-ins on the latch, room for the latches to spread open, more positive latch hooks, and a few radiuses – all are difficult to see unless they are pointed out or examined at a microscopic level,” says Smart Products Engineering Manager Cyrus Kliewer.

Kliewer continues, “Performance wise, the new latching system will close with less force than before and yet contains a positive latch system which resists un-twisting because the end pieces contain improved geometry for the latch hooks.”

As you may know, a completed 300 Series valve is designed as one unit that will produce a steady control of flow in one direction. Thus, an improved latching system will better ensure all internal components (see exploded valve view below) are intact and working exactly as needed based on your unique design criteria.

Featured O-ring Material: Viton®

Compatibility with petroleum and fuel oils make Viton® (Flurocarbon Type A) a popular choice within the Automotive and Aerospace industries.  This o-ring material also works extremely well with most acids and chemicals, as well as in extremely cold or hot environments.

This material works especially well with:

  • Most Acids and Chemicals
  • Petroleum Oils/Fuels
  • Silicone Oils/Greases
  • Vacuum
  • Halogenated Hydrocarbons
  • Di-Ester Lubricants

Smart Products offers Viton® o-rings in a 60 to 75 Durometer (hardness of o-ring) range, with 75 being the standard size.

Another great feature of Viton® o-rings is that they are able to withstand a wide range of temperatures from -15°F to 400°F.

As you will see in the chart below, Viton® has a “good” rating for wear, an “excellent” rating for both compression set and permeation resistance, and a “moderate” rating for short-term resilience.
